Our client, a global construction company, is looking to appoint a successful Site Foreman to be based in Cabo Delgado.
OVERVIEW
The Site Foreman will oversee the daily operations of a marine construction site, ensuring the project is completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires extensive experience in marine construction, strong leadership, and the ability to manage teams, equipment, and materials in challenging environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and supervise the on-site construction team, including workers, subcontractors, and equipment operators, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
• Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and ensure all work is performed in compliance with project plans and specifications.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines.
• Manage the execution of marine construction activities such as dredging, piling, seawall construction, breakwaters, jetties, and dock installations.
• Ensure the timely delivery of materials, equipment, and personnel to the site and manage their efficient use.
• Maintain accurate daily reports on work progress, delays, and issues, and communicate these to the project manager or site supervisor.
• Enforce all health and safety protocols on-site, ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks with the crew to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks.
• Regularly inspect the site for hazards, ensuring that all safety equipment is used properly and that workers adhere to safety standards.
• Monitor the quality of work performed on-site to ensure it meets project specifications and engineering standards.
• Conduct inspections during and after construction activities to ensure work is being executed to the highest quality.
• Address and rectify any defects or non-compliance issues immediately.
• Mentor and coach workers to ensure high-quality performance and foster a team-oriented work environment.
• Resolve any disputes or issues among the crew and ensure effective communication between the team and management.
• Assess the skill levels of crew members and make recommendations for training or additional resources as needed.
• Oversee the proper operation, maintenance, and storage of all equipment, ensuring that cranes, barges, excavators, and other machinery are in good working condition.
• Coordinate the delivery and storage of materials such as piles, concrete, and steel to ensure they are ready for use when needed.
• Ensure the efficient use of materials and monitor for waste, ensuring costs stay within budget.
• Work closely with engineers, surveyors, and subcontractors to ensure the technical aspects of the project are met.
• Communicate with local authorities and environmental agencies to ensure compliance with regulations, particularly regarding marine and environmental impacts.
• Attend site meetings to provide updates on project progress, challenges, and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 5-10 years of experience in marine construction, including supervisory roles on projects such as harbor works, piers, wharfs, dredging, or coastal defense structures.
• Strong understanding of marine construction techniques, equipment, and materials, including pile driving, dredging, and underwater work.
• OSHA certification or other relevant safety training is required. Certifications in marine construction or heavy equipment operation are highly desirable.
• Proven ability to manage teams, delegate tasks, and maintain worker morale and safety in demanding environments.
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to adapt to changing conditions and solve issues in real-time.
