Controls/Automation Engineer

Our team is currently looking for a Controls/Automation Engineer for one of our Industrial Gas clients in the Greater Houston area.

The Controls/Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, programming, and commissioning of control systems used in industrial gas equipment and plant automation. This role supports both new system development and the optimization of existing systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

• Design and implement PLC/HMI-based control systems for process plants and compressor packages.
• Develop control system architectures, wiring diagrams, and I/O lists.
• Program PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric) and configure SCADA/HMI systems.
• Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing).
• Collaborate with process engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical teams to ensure integrated design.
• Provide remote and on-site support for commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of systems.
• Ensure all control systems comply with relevant safety and industry standards (IEC, ISO, etc.).
• Maintain documentation for systems design, operation manuals, and code repositories.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and R&D efforts.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, & Skills)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in gas, oil & energy, or chemical industries.
• Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley RSLogix, etc.).
• Experience with SCADA/HMI systems (e.g., WinCC, FactoryTalk, Wonderware).
• Familiarity with field instrumentation, control valves, and communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
