Our client, an independent power producer operating and developing power projects in Africa, is looking to appoint a successful Electrical Technician to based in Inhambane.
Responsibilities:
The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all electrical equipment of the Combined Cycle Plant and for troubleshooting common electrical problems of the Combined Cycle Plant.
This role will also deal with updating the specifications of parts and communication with Electrical Engineer / Operators / the planner to complete the work in a timely manner. The Electrical Maintenance Technician reports directly and under the authority of the Electrical Engineer.
• Participates in small and large overhauls of gas and steam turbines.
• Carries out planned maintenance work as scheduled on all plant panels and on Gas Turbines (GT) / Steam Turbine (ST) and generators.
• Adapts procedures provided by the manufacturer, if necessary, and incorporates modifications into the IFS.
• Participates and performs High Voltage Sectioning with the operators of the Plant and substation.
• As necessary and trained, heavy mobile equipment operates (forklifts, personnel lifts, etc.).
• Maintains records and logs labor, materials, and equipment used and updates in the IFS.
• Works alone or with operator, mechanic, I&C technician, etc. in production and auxiliary units, depending on the types of equipment.
• Writes and implements systematic electrical maintenance procedures.
• Performs routine maintenance on low, medium, and high voltage panels, electric motors, PMs, etc.
• Regularly records the work performed, schedules, and maintenance logs in computerized systems.
• Respond quickly to emergency situations. Must be able to work late and during the night, must be able to work on weekends and provide support for calls in a timely manner.
• Ensures that all work performed meets the required codes (Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE)) and is in accordance with the factory's policies and procedures.
• Uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, safety boots, gloves, and aprons.
• Responsible for the proper care/cleaning of tools and parts.
Corrective Maintenance
• The priority of interventions is defined in the daily joint maintenance-operation meeting. Based on the intervention orders provided by the Electrical Engineer, the Electrical Maintenance Technician:
• Ensures the availability of various electrical materials and parts with the warehouse.
• Requests for LOTO (Lockout and Tagout) of the equipment from the operations department via IFS.
• Intervenes in equipment with a work authorization issued by the operations department.
• Writes an intervention report in the IFS as soon as the work is completed.
• Intervenes in failures when required by the Shift Engineer or their superior. In this case, he analyzes the situation and proposes a solution as quickly as possible.
• Manages the supply of technical tools and defines the needs, ensuring the existence of the budget line and the requests after agreement with his superiors.
• Provides the necessary tools during minor and major overhauls.
• Takes care of the tools and ensures they are safe and in good condition to be used when necessary.
• Anticipates and makes proposals to his superiors with a view to reducing or even eliminating the recurrence of failures. Participates/conducts RCA (Root Cause Analysis) to eliminate the root cause.
• Participate in the daily work kickoff meeting.
• Applies knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring the equipment to operation.
• Recognizes and corrects possible equipment failures or unsafe conditions and communicates this to the Electrical Engineer and operators.
• Carries out electrical switching and operation of substations after being certified and accredited.
Control
• The Electrical Maintenance Technician informs the progress of his activities to the Electrical Engineer and contacts him when encountering difficulties. The latter goes to the field, if necessary, to note the reported anomalies or completed works.
• The Electrical Engineer evaluates the results and the behavior of the Electric Technician during the 2 (two) semiannual and annual individual performance evaluations.
Qualifications:
• The Electrical Technician must hold a Diploma Level from an approved Technical Institution.
• He/she must have at least three (3) years of experience in a similar role/role.
• In addition, the Electrical Technician must have:
• Ability to consolidate continuous improvement (Quality Assurance, HSE, Benchmark);
• Good knowledge in Maintenance of power plants (routine maintenance,
• preventive, corrective, problem solving, etc.) or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of maintenance, minor and major overhauls in a power plant
• or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of work recording practices in a power plant or
• equivalent.
• Good understanding and expression in Portuguese and (English will be an additional advantage).
• Must have good HSE practices in a power plant
• Understand gas turbines, steam turbines, control systems
• Knowledge of high voltage electrical systems
• Being a female candidate is an added advantage.
